During the pandemic, we know that the numbers swimming in the sea surged. With nearly everything closed indoors, people could still head to the sea, although even that was locked down at one stage. But many remained sea swimmers when the restrictions were lifted. As the joke goes, how did we know they were sea swimming? Because they told us. But we know too that there is a lot of science that explains why those who swim in the sea might have an air of contentment (or smugness, depending on your point of view) when they emerge from the water. …
