On January 3, The Currency revealed that the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), an American healthcare giant, was in advanced talks to acquire the Sports Surgery Clinic (SSC), the privately-owned hospital in the north Dublin suburb of Santry. On January 16, the two sides announced that a deal had been agreed that would see the SCC become UPMC’s fourth hospital in Ireland, joining UPMC Whitfield in Waterford, UPMC Kildare in Clane, and UPMC Aut Even in Kilkenny.
