With four offshore wind farms securing State-backed electricity contracts in Ireland’s first-ever auction open to this technology this month, there is finally a portfolio of bankable projects to launch the offshore industry in this country. The successful bidders in this initial phase total 3GW of capacity, equivalent to two-thirds of the Republic’s existing onshore wind fleet.
