Almost as quickly as it started, Ireland’s era of new apartment construction is coming to an end. Half-year results from Cairn and Glenveagh show our largest home builders are both reversing out of the apartment business. For Glenveagh, whose results were announced yesterday, apartment sales fell 44 per cent in the first half of the year, compared to the same period last year. For Cairn, apartment sales fell 41 per cent. This isn’t just happening because the companies are selling fewer apartments. The average selling price of new apartments has dropped dramatically.
