Covid-19 may have receded into the background as a social and economic disruptor but the examinership of Mac Interiors gives a taste of the aftermath. Revenue statistics from August show that some 59,500 businesses are still availing of debt warehousing, the scheme introduced by the government in May 2020 to support firms struggling with cash flow during the pandemic. The tax debt owed by those firms is substantial – €1.906 billion, enough (maybe) to build a children’s hospital.
