The accountancy body, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland (CPA), is set to merge with Chartered Accountants Ireland as the profession faces a “generational challenge in terms of its attractiveness to new entrants”, the Commercial Court has been told. The rapid development of emerging technologies and increased engagement with regulators and other State agencies are also cited by CPA chief executive Eamonn Siggins as reasons why accountancy agencies across the globe are developing closer ties and sometimes amalgamating.
