The director general of Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), the state body responsible for funding scientific research in Ireland, has left the organisation, The Currency has learned. Professor Philip Nolan’s departure follows a board meeting of SFI on Monday, the science body has confirmed. Deputy director general Dr Ciarán Seoighe has been appointed acting director general. Nolan, an ex-member of the National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) during the Covid-19 pandemic, took up the role of DG of SFI in January 2022.
