Social media platforms Reddit and Tumblr have lost legal challenges to their designation as a video sharing platform by media watchdog Coimisiún na Meán. The US firms brought judicial review proceedings against the regulator’s decision of December 29, 2023, binding them to more stringent online safety rules aimed at safeguarding users, particularly children. The designation by Coimisiún na Meán was made under the EU’s revised Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMS Directive).
