Professor Philip Nolan has failed to secure an interlocutory injunction against his summary dismissal as director general of Science Foundation Ireland (SFI). In a 30-page judgment handed down on Friday morning, Justice Rory Mulcahy found that Nolan did not have a strong enough case against SFI to justify a court decision requiring his return to work. Nolan argued that he met the high threshold needed to secure a mandatory injunction and that damages would not be an inadequate remedy for his dismissal. The judge disagreed.
