On Wednesday, August 28, the sea was calm as 209 swimmers assembled on Killiney Beach in south Dublin for a sea race. As they queued to pay their €15 race fee, two motor boats laid floating marks in the bay and six kayakers took to the water. The race was hosted jointly by Glenalbyn Swimming Club and Dublin Swimming Club. A group called Leinster Open Sea (LOS) ran the logistics.
