Constructed in 1765 for the Duke of Leinster as an accompaniment to his country lodging at Carton Estate, Ravensdale House, with its 223-acre surrounds just outside modern-day Leixlip, is itself an impressive manor. Ravensdale has since passed through several hands, from a Parisian baron to a major in the British army and on to the Bruton family of cattle farmers in 1917.
