When the Russian research vessel the Yantar was detected in the Irish Sea, it once again set off alarm bells about who exactly is active in Irish waters. The vessel is a Russian navy oceanographic research ship and was spotted around subsea communication and energy cables. It was soon escorted out of Irish waters by the Irish Naval Service.
