As one county board chair put it to me recently, the word coming from many quarters in the Gaelic games community is that a big tax bill is coming the GAA’s way. Officials at headquarters in Drumcondra are locked in discussions with the Revenue Commissioners to iron out the final details of a nationwide tax liability self-assessment process for 2024. County boards will assess their finances for expenses paid to referees, players, staff and volunteers last year. This will then be used to determine any further tax liabilities between 2021 and 2023.
