According to US businessman Jeff Leo, it was former GAA footballer Bernard Brogan Snr who introduced him to the wealthy American investor Mary Wenning, owner of a poultry farm empire in Fort Recovery Ohio. The three began investing together, typically in property and hotels, with the Wennings, Mary and her husband James, running money — circa €40 million — through Irish company Wennings Holdings Ltd (WHL) to Steelworks Investments, the entity used to acquire the assets.
