The path to becoming a fully-fledged psychologist is a complex, timely, and often expensive one. Typically, would-be psychologists have to journey through three levels of third-level education and boast years of experience to be awarded a doctorate in their field. To add to those hurdles, places on those courses are often quite restricted. This is not an ideal situation in a country that is facing a shortage of psychologists, which can have detrimental effects on a population dealing with increasing and more complex mental health issues.
