Phone cracking technology supplied by the controversial Israeli company Cellebrite was used on a phone owned by the journalist Barry McCaffrey in September 2018, a day after it was seized in raids conducted by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) on the homes and offices of McCaffrey and fellow journalist Trevor Birney.
