US news network CNN has filed an appeal against a High Court ruling favouring Ireland as the jurisdiction it will have to defend a defamation suit brought by businessman Declan Ganley. Ganley and his satellite network company Rivada Networks Ltd are seeking damages for loss of reputation over a story published in October 2020 alleging the US Department of Defence came under pressure from the Trump White House to award a lease of mid-band spectrum to “Rivada”.
