The Department of Arts has yet to carry out any periodic critical reviews (PCRs) of the governance structures of non-commercial agencies under its remit, such as the Arts Council, as required every five years under rules introduced almost a decade ago. This requirement was introduced in 2016 under the Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies, which outlines a framework for best practice in corporate governance by both commercial and non-commercial State bodies.
