Just days after a British lender installed a receiver over Powerscourt Distillery, two shareholders of the Wicklow-based whiskey company have petitioned the High Court to grant protection for the company and the appointment of an examiner. Michael Pierce and Gerard Ginty are directors of the distillers and hold a combined 22.5 per cent stake in the business. They made the petition for the appointment of an interim examiner yesterday, a move that effectively removes the receivers from control of the business pending a full hearing.
