RTÉ incurred “considerable costs” to extend a licence for an outdated IT system due to significant delays in a project to replace it, but did not include these costs in a report sent to its parent department in February about capital projects with substantial overspend. Issues with the delivery of a replacement for the broadcaster’s ageing channel management system (CMS), completed after much delay in 2022, led to a €390,000 write-off and a budget overrun of €900,000.
