Packaging giant Smurfit Westrock has become entangled in a US lawsuit that alleges price-fixing in cardboard packaging. The antitrust case is a proposed class action by Artuso Pastry Foods Corp, based in Mt Vernon, New York. It was filed in a Chicago court last week and is inviting other businesses to join. In its complaint, the pastry business alleges that Smurfit Westrock and several other packaging firms colluded on “parallel price increases” on the raw materials used in cardboard packaging and caused a 30 per cent rise in prices over the last five years.
