There is an “extreme risk” that the International Protection Appeals Tribunal (IPAT) will not be able to process cases to the highest professional standards and in accordance with “fairness and natural justice” as it faces an increased caseload without sufficient resources, internal records show. There has been a significant increase in applications from people seeking protection in Ireland in the past three years, with the State facing a serious backlog of applications and also struggling to provide accommodation.
