In July, Britain’s communication regulator Ofcom introduced a series of new rules, all with the expressed aim of protecting children online. The rules were implemented under the Online Safety Act, the flagship legislation that was passed by parliament in 2023, tasked with making online platforms more responsible for the content they host.  Among the changes brought in were obligations on social media companies to filter out harmful content displayed to kids as well as to quickly remove harmful content as and when it appears.
