The long-anticipated sale of Energia was announced today with at least six credible bidders whittled down to one winner – French private-equity investor Ardian. Ardian has bought Enegria from I Squared Capital, the US-based global infrastructure investment manager, in a deal worth at least €2.5 billion. That includes debt, which was at €632.3 million at the end of December. The French firm bought the group intact – there had been speculation that a sale would see the valuable renewable energy division detached from the thermal plant and consumer supply parts of the business.
