In a bid to drive more climate and environmentally-friendly procurement across the public sector, the State introduced a Green Public Procurement (GPP) action plan in 2023. GPP is where public authorities source goods, services or works with a reduced environmental impact throughout their life cycle. It can deliver carbon reductions, conserve water, improve air and water quality and prevent waste. The State’s plan includes a requirement for all future central purchasing arrangements to include contract-specific GPP criteria.
