Recent National Transport Authority (NTA) audits of grants to Waterford City and County Council under its multi-million-euro active travel programme in 2023 and 2024 identified serious concerns with “inadequate” record-keeping for procurement across several projects. Under the active travel investment programme, the NTA allocates hundreds of millions of euro to local authorities to develop walking and cycling infrastructure in villages, towns, and cities.
