Speaking to The Irish Times in 2024, Niall Cussen, the chief executive of the Office of the Planning Regulator (OPR), was buoyant for the future of the State.  Ireland became one of few nations to link its national development plan and national planning framework when it introduced Project Ireland 2040 in 2018.
