Belfast shipyard Harland & Wolff has been removed from the EU’s list of approved ship recycling facilities. The EU maintains a list of approved shipyards for dismantling and recycling EU-flagged vessels that meet high environmental and safety standards. The list includes shipyards both in the EU and in third countries. Harland & Wolff changed ownership in 2025 after Spanish shipbuilding firm Navantia bought the famous shipyard, which had gone into administration with around 600 jobs at risk.
