It was during the latter years of his grandmother’s life that Etienne Louvet truly realised the impracticalities of rural living. Based in a village of 800 people in Brittany in northern France, she would need to rely heavily on her family and friends to pick up groceries or prescriptions. Luckily, he says, they had a large and supportive family. But for others without the support, life would have been even more difficult.
