A draft bill to increase the budget of the long underfunded Irish Fiscal Advisory Council (Ifac) is currently making its way through the Oireachtas. The heads of the Finance (Tax Appeals and Fiscal Responsibility) Bill 2024 show that the Government plans to increase Ifac’s baseline budget ceiling to more than €1.2 million. As the council’s initial budget was set out in primary legislation, any amendment must also be made through this legislative route.
