This time last year, I reported on Cabot Financial, a debt collection agency based in an unassuming Dublin suburban industrial estate off Tallaght’s Belgard road. Cabot, which is ultimately owned by the US distressed debt investment group Encore Capital, had just launched its 1,000th High Court action against Irish debtors on behalf of multiple international vulture funds and was growing its own loans portfolio. Through its subsidiary Cabot Securitisation Europe, it was also increasingly using Ireland as a base to sweat non-performing debt assets on the continent.
