What a difference 15 years make. In 2005, the Competition Authority concluded a three-year investigation of Ticketmaster Ireland with a decision that exclusive ticketing agreements with concert promoters “do not foreclose the market”. As revealed by The Currency last week, the watchdog’s successor, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Commission (CCPC), has now struck an agreement with Ticketmaster placing severe restrictions on these exclusive deals, and banning them outright in direct contracts between the ticketing agent and live venues.
