The Football Association of Ireland was once described as a “perpetually exploding clown car” and Boris Johnson’s government could currently be viewed the same way. On Friday, the Daily Telegraph’s latest story about Downing Street parties – without Boris Johnson present – on the eve of Prince Philip’s funeral seemed to add another explosive element to the car. Soon, Downing Street was apologising to the Queen which would seem to be the point when a politician reaches the end of the road.
