Ireland will be among the worst hit countries following new European Commission sanctions which will mean Russian airlines will be prohibited from acquiring aircraft, spare parts, and equipment. The sanctions will not impact existing leases of hundreds of planes to Russian companies by Irish-based lessors. Commission president Ursula von der Leyen said it would “ban the sale of all aircraft” and related equipment to Russian firms, who have about 980 jets in service.
