In Tempe, just east of Phoenix Arizona the world’s first mechanical tree was unveiled on Tuesday, a 33-foot structure that captures 1,000 times more carbon dioxide than a regular tree. The pioneering project is the brainchild of scientist Klaus Lackner, an engineering professor at Arizona State University who linked up with the Dublin based company Carbon Collect to make two decades of research a commercial reality.
