On Saturday morning last, one of Ireland’s longest established media owners, Jim Fitzpatrick, died in Belfast, a month shy of his 94th birthday. Jim wasn’t particularly well known, certainly not outside Northern Ireland. He liked it that way. Days previously, another nonagenarian media owner, Rupert Murdoch (91), held his annual summer party in London attended by a cast of celebrities and politicians, though many of the latter seem to aspire more to the former status.
