When Evelyn Moynihan designated 2022 as the year of recovery for Kilkenny Design, she didn’t have much of a choice. The department chain, which is approaching its sixtieth year in business, took a €15.27 million hit to its revenues during the pandemic. The tourist trade that typically makes up a third of its sales was wiped out and it lost 45 per cent of its total business in 2021. Overall, it recorded a pre-tax loss of €2.27 million.
