Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd has launched legal proceedings against the Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) in the Irish High Court. The legal action comes on foot of a €405 million fine imposed by the DPC on Meta earlier this month. It is the highest fine ever imposed by the DPC and the second highest under GDPR legislation. Under the Data Protection Act 2018, Meta had 28 days to appeal any fine imposed by the DPC, and these proceedings fall well within that deadline.
