Floating the VC is not a crazy way of thinking. Public market investors get access to private companies, the VC investors in those private companies get to sell their shares, and that money then gets recycled back into more investing.

There are obvious reasons why you should not ask a founder for investment advice. There are, though, some more subtly terrible reasons why you should not ask me for investment advice and these are more interesting to discuss. 

Building a company or investing is never easy. If it’s easy, you’re probably doing it wrong or someone’s defrauding you. When you probe many founders and investors about their successes, beyond the interviews and posts, you will find a messy, complex, and often inelegant story.

One thing I’m very comfortable suggesting to company founders is that in a post-zero interest rate policy world, their exit, if any, is much more likely to be driven by Ebitda than anything else.
