When you get down to brass tacks, our economic future is tethered to the whims of our international trading partners and a handful of multinational taxpayers. But, as the data highlights, we are at least coming from a position of strength.

I don’t expect an IMF-style adjustment programme for the UK – but I would not rule it out either. But, the bigger question for the UK, and not just the current government, is what is the UK’s industrial policy going to look like?

There’s an inflexion point for any growing SME where the business is just too small to bring in subject matter experts but too large to manage without them. You either plug the gap yourself or you stagnate, and the day you stagnate is the day your business goes into decline.

Building a company or investing is never easy. If it’s easy, you’re probably doing it wrong or someone’s defrauding you. When you probe many founders and investors about their successes, beyond the interviews and posts, you will find a messy, complex, and often inelegant story.

It often feels like entrepreneurship is a constant cycle of building, preparing to build, and then building again. The momentum created by the current wave of rapid change will carry many businesses to greater heights. It will crush others.
