It took a few wins in a row over England in the mid 2000’s before Irish players and fans finally stopped measuring their season by how they did against the old enemy. We’re not quite there yet in our relationship with New Zealand, a century of heavy defeats will do that to you, but this generation needs to move on from the series win last summer and realise that South Africa and France are the true barometer, and that they need to find more ways to win big games.
