The avalanche of revelations concerning alleged abuse at schools run by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, and the Spiritans’ stated willingness to hear from and compensate victims, raises the question of the order’s ability to settle more claims in the future. The congregation told RTÉ that 233 people had made allegations of abuse against 77 Irish Spiritans in Ireland and overseas, and the Congregation had made settlements totalling over €5 million since 2004 – out of its own resources.
