Attempts are underway to find pathfinder cases among around 1,200 legal actions lodged by mica-affected homeowners, and have them fast-tracked into the Commercial division of the High Court.  The negligence and breach of duty claims, described today as important and “of significance” by Mr Justice Denis McDonald who presides over the Commercial list, are against Cassidy Brothers Concrete Products, and oversight bodies Donegal County Council and the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI).  In the suite of claims, Cassidy Brothers are alleged to have supplied defective materials from a Donegal quarry containing the mineral mica.
