Over the past few months, the nascent lawsuits against insurers have piled up as aircraft lessors count the cost of planes stranded in Russia due to war-related EU sanctions.  Just last week SMBC Aviation Capital – the second largest aircraft lessor in the world, with offices in the IFSC – joined the fray, lodging indemnity proceedings against 11 insurers and underwriters including Lloyds, Chubb and AIG Europe.  The case was admitted to the fast track Commercial division of the High Court on Monday morning, easily vaulting the one million euro threshold typically required for entry.
