Over the past few months, the nascent lawsuits against insurers have piled up as aircraft lessors count the cost of planes stranded in Russia due to war-related EU sanctions. Just last week SMBC Aviation Capital – the second largest aircraft lessor in the world, with offices in the IFSC – joined the fray, lodging indemnity proceedings against 11 insurers and underwriters including Lloyds, Chubb and AIG Europe.
