The Belfry saga continues. AIB is now planning to “reassess” the cases of hundreds of investors who lost millions of euro after investing in failed property syndicates known as the Belfry Funds. Eighteen months ago, the bank announced a €100 million redress scheme to consider compensating 2,500 investors in the Belfry Funds close to two decades after most have backed the ill-fated syndicates. In the final three months of 2022 AIB began to inform investors of the outcome of its review and whether they were due a full, partial or zero refund.
