British retail giant Tesco has ended talks to rescue the troubled Irish franchise behind 26 Iceland supermarkets. Metron Stores Ltd, the company behind Iceland, went into examinership in June and detailed talks were ongoing for a number of months with a number of parties. Tesco was then selected as preferred bidder. The High Court, however, heard this Thursday morning that talks had ended with this preferred bidder, which was not named in court.
