Just three weeks ago, the Fiscal Advisory Council warned us of the fiscal costs of climate change for Ireland’s public finances. The Council’s estimated costs of compliance were huge at €0.35 billion per year. Transitioning to a new energy model was enormous at €2.5 billion per year. The cost of coping with the effects of climate change, which ranged from mitigation measures to defences to repair and rebuild costs, was on the order of €0.5 billion per year.
