On a hill overlooking Liscannor bay is 150 square metres of tarmac, a pedestrian walkway, and a bus shelter. It is a car park. The painted lines of the parking bays gleam white, but on the ground is a thin layer of moss. The car park, now eight years old, has never been used. The car park was to be a park-and-ride: a place where visitors to the Cliffs of Moher could leave the car and pay for access to the Cliffs of Moher via a shuttle bus.
