The Irish Times cannot call Nobel Prize-winning US economist Joseph Stiglitz as an expert witness in defence of a defamation claim brought by financier Dermot Desmond, the High Court has ruled. Desmond is suing the newspaper over its April 2016 reporting on the Panama Papers, the 11.5 million-document cache leaked from files of Panamanian lawyers in 2015 and disseminated by journalists from several newspapers including The Irish Times, The Guardian, and The Washington Post.
