Last week, Bord na Móna and Amazon announced that the US multinational’s data hosting business Amazon Web Services (AWS) would become the first customer of the semi-state’s Eco Energy Park. Bord na Móna has earmarked 3,000 hectares of former commercial bogs, including initial sites along the M6 motorway between Rochfortsbridge, Co Westmeath and Rhode, Co Offaly, to co-locate wind and solar farms with heavy industrial electricity users such as data centres, food and pharmaceutical factories, transport and logistics hubs, or production plants for future fuels like green hydrogen.
